Digital UX/UI Designer

Digital UX/UI Designer

We’re looking for a digital designer – with a mixture of UX and UI skills – to join our design team and produce effective eCommerce experiences for a wide range of retailers and their customers.

Who we are

JH is a digital agency based in Nottingham that specialises in creating eCommerce websites on the Magento platform. Over the past ten years, we’ve worked with a broad spectrum of brands, providing strategy, design, and development for online stores that are used by millions of people. Our industry-leading practice has cultivated long-term client relationships, won international e-commerce awards, and allowed us to grow the business year-on-year. We’re building on that success by expanding the team across all departments, including design.

Responsibilities

You’ll lead and/or support design on client projects from discovery to delivery, shaping everything from product strategy to interface styling in order to create experiences that are visually appealing, intuitive to use, and effective at meeting business and user needs. Throughout the process, you’ll be actively consulting and collaborating with clients and within the business.

You main responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct discovery activities such as audits, workshops, and research
  • Produce UX deliverables such as flowcharts, wireframes, and prototypes
  • Develop and document the look and feel for digital branding and interfaces
  • Produce UI deliverables such as mood boards, mock-ups, and guidelines
  • Create design assets like icons, illustrations, and animations
  • Work with developers to review and refine built designs
  • Suggest ideas for client roadmaps which improve the user experience
  • Present your deliverables to gather feedback and build consensus
  • Select tasks and deliverables best suited to each project
  • Advocate for user needs, good practice, and emerging trends

You’ll also be involved with internal projects:

  • Improve and promote design practice and culture within the business
  • Deploy our brand guidelines across different applications
  • Support our sales activities by contributing to proposals and pitches
  • Provide assets and content for our marketing campaigns
  • Help organise community events like Meet Magento and Design Exchange

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who can fulfil several of the criteria listed below, but we don’t expect you to match everything — having room to grow is also important to us. You should be able to demonstrate your skills and experience using relevant examples from past work.

The main things we’re looking for:

  • Experience of working in a similar design role
  • Portfolio that demonstrates a track record of successful design work
  • Experience of producing and presenting high quality UX and UI deliverables
  • Experience of designing for mobile, tablet, and desktop devices
  • Ability to work autonomously or in collaboration with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly in writing and face-to-face
  • Ability to receive and respond to constructive feedback
  • Ability to adapt your approach for different project constraints
  • Understanding of what is possible with HTML/CSS/JS
  • Desire to continue learning and help others improve

Other things that would set you apart:

  • Experience of designing e-commerce websites
  • Experience of scoping, estimating, and planning work
  • Experience of facilitating design workshops
  • Experience of conducting research activities
  • Experience of running conversion optimisation
  • Ability to code HTML/CSS/JS or WordPress themes
  • Desire to take part in community events

Benefits

You‘ll get a competitive salary and a range of perks including:

  • Flexitime and working from home
  • Generous allowance for annual leave
  • Budget for professional development (e.g. design conferences)
  • Budget for personal wellness (e.g. yoga classes)
  • Your choice of hardware and software
