Nottingham's New Adventures Conference returns in 2019 with a raft of community-boosting fringe events. Amongst them will be the legendary bowling tournament, organised this time round by JH.
Wait, what’s New Adventures?
New Adventures is a conference about digital design, held in our hometown of Nottingham. After a six-year hiatus, it returns on 24th January 2019. JH is not only sponsoring the main day of talks, but we’re also proud to be organising two warm-up events on the 23rd too – including the legendary bowling tournament.
You can read more about why we’re supporting the conference in this blog post.
How will the bowling tournament work?
We have booked 24 lanes at MFA Bowl Nottingham. Each lane will be assigned to a team of six players. Each team will play three games: one to get warmed up, and two for competing.
The team with the highest combined score in either of the competitive games will be the winners. Prizes and glory await!
How can I take part?
Registration is now open. You have until January 9th to submit your details. There are two ways to register: as a team or as an individual. If the event is oversubscribed, a lottery will pick the competing teams.
Registering as a team
Teams can register up to six players, including a captain, and provide a team name (bowling puns are fully encouraged). If you list fewer than six people, we’ll fill up your team with solo registrants — this way, you get to make new friends and more people have a chance to bowl.
Registering as an individual
Solo players can also register. We’ll matchmake you in two ways. Firstly, we’ll fill any empty spaces in registered teams. Once the spaces are filled, we’ll combine solo players into new teams. Either way, you can kick off New Adventures in great company.
Given the scale of New Adventures, and the popularity of the fringe events, it is possible that more people will register than we have spaces for. If that happens, we’ll put all of the teams (whether registered or matchmade) into a lottery and pick 24 at random. We believe this is fairer than a first-come basis, and gives anyone who registers an equal chance of playing.
What if I don’t want to bowl?
If you don’t want to bowl, but still want to mingle with other attendees, then you’re more than welcome to come along and spectate. There’s room to watch all 24 lanes, or you can congregate in the bar area. Speaking of the bar: there’ll be extra staff to make sure drinks are served quickly.
If you want something completely different, we’ll also be hosting a special edition of DXN.
Anything else I should know?
You’ll also be able to pick up your New Adventures conference badges at the alley from 8.30pm.
